100% clean & fossil-free buildings in Multnomah County

Last November, Multnomah County voters approved $387 million in bonds for public library construction and improvements. Shortly thereafter, Multnomah County Commissioners discussed committing to construct the new libraries and major renovations to be fossil-free and rely on clean energy.

We are excited to report that the Multnomah County Commissioners are now considering a resolution that would ensure ALL new county buildings —including but not limited to county libraries—are built to be fossil-free and utilize 100% clean and renewable energy.

Multnomah County Commissioners are scheduled to vote on this resolution on April 15th, 2021, and we are seeking to demonstrate broad support for adopting this commitment to construct 100% clean and fossil-free county buildings from now on.

We know it is a very short timeline, but please take less than 1 minute to sign right now!

Presentation Opportunity Next Week!

Art Works for Change is hosting a new storytelling project about climate change. Art Works for Change creates projects and exhibitions to address social and environmental issues. They have teamed up with the Intersectional Activism Club at the International School of Beaverton to host a climate-themed game night, which will be hosted on Zoom with local arts and environmental organizations. They are looking for a Climate Reality speaker to give a 10-15 minute talk on any subject (geared towards youth). They do need to know ASAP, so please email us so we can connect you.

Join our Chapter Leadership Team! Nominations due Friday April 23.

We're looking for people interested in taking on a leadership role in our chapter. The commitment is to attend our virtual leadership meetings (once a month) to help plan our bimonthly (every other month) Chapter meetings, organize events, help with strategic planning in December, and keep our chapter growing and thriving. There will also be time spent outside of the meeting working on specific projects, but that is flexible for each individual. If you have one hour a week to volunteer, please consider joining us!

We have a great team currently and would love to add more team members! Please review the positions below to see if you find a good fit for yourself. Please also, review the timelines below so that you can self nominate if you are interested in running in this year's elections!
  • Members will need to self-nominate by Friday April 23rd. Members should email Climate Reality Project, Portland Chapter at climaterealityportland@gmail.com with a short personal bio and an explanation of why they want to hold that position.
  • Ballots will go out, via email and a fully anonymous Google Form opening on Monday, May 3rd and closing on Monday, May 10th. Email reminders to vote will be sent as necessary in between the opening and closing dates.
Election results will be shared during the Tuesday, May 18. Chapter meeting with position transitions to take place once the results are announced.

Anyone who is a chapter member is eligible to run. The chapter co-chair positions are the only role that must be filled by a trained Climate Reality Leader. Any questions? Please email us!

April Cook and Serve!

Cooking Demo: Vegan Lasagna w/
Climate Reality PDX and Chef Linda Tyler

Tuesday, April 20 • 5:30 pm

In this Cook & Serve event, Chef Linda Tyler will demonstrate how to make vegan Vegetable Lasagna with a vegan Marinara Sauce.

This opportunity is organized by Ashwin Prabhu, a member of the Climate-Friendly Food Committee of the Climate Reality Project, Portland Chapter.

Watch this cooking demo on Zoom at 5:30pm on Tuesday, April 20. If you want to cook along with Linda, be sure to email climaterealityportland@gmail.com right away for the recipes so you can do your shopping and prep in advance (we will also send you this information once you register).
Then, on Saturday, April 24, you can join others cooking at home to make Hearty Vegan Vegetable Lasagna for 45 people experiencing homelessness who are staying at the Clark Center. If you don't want to cook, you could help deliver what others cook to the shelter. You can make a lot or a little. If you want to contribute, but can't make the featured recipe, Ashwin can help you identify what you can make (like a side dish or Corn Chowder, for example), please sign up here.

If these dates won't work for you, Climate Reality will record the demo, which you can see on Climate Reality's YouTube channel. You are also encouraged to make the dishes for your family at home!
