PPS promised our students they would take action, and they need to keep their word.
Our Portland Public Schools Climate Justice Committee has been pressing the school district to implement the excellent climate justice resolution passed back in 2016, Resolution #5272. We have been meeting with students from almost all Portland high schools to develop demands of the district to live up to the promises of the resolution -- attached. This Tuesday, May 14, two students, Sriya Chinnam of Lincoln and Kaiya Yonamine of Roosevelt, will be presenting these demands to the school board. (A group of about 15 students met on Monday with the superintendent with indeterminate results.)

We are asking climate justice supporters to arrive at the BESC, the school district office, at 5 pm for a short rally in the parking area in front of the BESC entrance and then we will go into the board room. The board meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 pm, and student testimony is first, so the climate justice part of the evening will be relatively brief -- but important.

When: Tuesday, May 14, 5 pm
Where: BESC, 501 N. Dixon (near the Broadway Bridge)
