This month we have two amazing speakers!
Beven Byrnes, Executive Director of Bridges Middle School, is a Portland native, mother of 4, elected Democratic committee person and Spokesperson and Community Organizer for Portland Clean Air. Beven will talk about the current state of air pollution in Portland (and the state), explain the health impacts of this pollution as well as her work through Portland Clean Air to engage a diverse array of stakeholders to address the problem. Did you know that Portland ranks as one of the worst cities in the U.S. for respiratory distress from air pollution, according to the EPA’s most recent National Air Toxics Assessment, released in 2018? It also ranks in the worst 1.3% of counties for airborne diesel particulates.

Paul Rippey, trained as a Climate Reality Leader in 2007 in Tennessee with his then teenage son, and has since delivered the Climate Project presentation fifty times in Uganda, the US, South Africa, Tanzania, and Morocco. He is also a member of Pachamama Alliance, and a co-founder of the newly-formed Pachamama Alliance in Portland and will be discussing what their group is doing, including a special Project Drawdown Workshop this month. Paul also writes and performs songs as part of his activism. Check out his performance (8:29) to City Council opposing freeway expansion.
