Save the Date! Next Chapter Meeting:
Tuesday, March 16, 6:30 – 8 pm.

Our Leadership Team has decided that we will move to a bimonthly chapter meeting (every other month). There will not be a chapter meeting for February. We will often have monthly events that take place, and other ways to take climate action besides chapter meetings. Also, stay tuned for details about our next virtual training which is happening April 22!

TODAY, 11 am: Climate Emergency Legislation with Earl Blumenauer

Throughout the past year, we have seen the effects of the climate crisis in our own backyard and around the world. From wildfires raging across Oregon and the West, to hurricanes wreaking havoc in the Southeast, and increasing average temperatures everywhere in between, the impact has been devastating. The scientists and experts have been clear: this is a climate emergency, and we need to take action yesterday.
After years of unrelenting destruction from Trump and congressional Republicans, a massive mobilization is sorely needed. That is why, today, I’m taking the next steps, alongside Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, to introduce legislation mandating the declaration of a national climate emergency by the president of the United States. This legislation builds upon a resolution we introduced last Congress that was initially crafted by stakeholders right here in Oregon.

I invite you to join me for a discussion about this new climate emergency legislation and its path forward in Congress.

Our climate crisis is connected to, and exacerbates, almost every other crisis we are dealing with. It’s important to emphasize the current and lasting effects that disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color. Climate justice is racial justice. Our National Climate Emergency Act will ensure every resource is at the country’s disposal to halt, reverse, mitigate, and prepare for the consequences of this climate crisis.

Please RSVP to Liv Brumfield on my staff to join our conversation on Monday (she will give you the zoom link). She can be reached at liv.brumfield@mail.house.gov or 202.821.5018. I hope to see you next week!

Courage,
Earl Blumenauer, Member of Congress
