October Calls to Actions!

Thank you to all who joined us for our September Chapter meeting, it was great meeting all the new committee leads and members and hearing what they are working on. We are open to all members in our community who want to work on climate action- whether or not you have completed Climate Reality Training. Here are some important action steps to take this month (and today)!

Extended Deadline for 24 Hours of Reality & new ways to share your presentation!

Good news! Climate Reality Project is extending the 24 Hours of Reality to presentations to October 16. If this weekend didn't work, you can still be part of this movement.

We also have a wonderful opportunity to add our presentations to a new YouTube channel that will be made available to retirement centers in our community. If you have a specific topic around climate solutions to share with this group of interested and engaged senior activists, we would like to hear from you. Please make sure you only use slides that are approved for broadcast. If you are registered on Reality Hub, you can find the resources to get prepared for your presentation here.
Marvin Pemberton has volunteered to help new members get started with their story and presentations in Keynote (Mac platform). We are also looking for an additional volunteer with experience in helping with PPT and Technical help. Please email us at climaterealityportland@gmail.com and we will work with you!

News from the Climate Education Team

The Climate Reality Project, Portland Chapter is a partner with the Vision 2030 Climate Education team and it’s shaping up to be an exciting and busy October! Our Vision 2030 Core Team Meetings are scheduled for the first and third Wednesday of the month, at 5:00pm. Let me know if you’re interested in participating with us and I’ll send you the details, all are welcome. Please also note the following:
  • Additional Core Team Meetings (5:00pm): October 21, Nov 4th, Nov 18th, December 2, December 16, Jan 6, Jan 20
  • October 14, 15, 19th & 20th - (two days of training, offered twice) to become a Climate Educator introducing our Climate Action Plan to middle and high school students. Our presentations to students will all be virtual for the rest of the school year, but it is quite interactive and fun! Email Lynn if you are interested.
  • October 22nd, 2-3:30pm: Full Vision 2030 Team Meeting. Twice a year the Vision 2030 Team meets as a full team to share with partners and friends. Join us to meet members from BPS, Metro, Forth, Solar Oregon and other organizations.
  • December 2nd: First ever tri-county Climate Career Summit hosted in partnership with PPS and others.
  • Outreach & planning for several events in Washington County - dates TBD

To stay up to date, we recommend joining this email listserv used to coordinate advocates on the rulemaking and implementation of the Oregon Climate Action Plan (Executive Order 20-04). This googlegroup will share communications, policy, and public comment period updates across all issue areas of OCAP.
