LEARN ABOUT CLIMATE WHILE SMELLING SPRING’S EARLIEST ROSES:
A CRPDX tour of the Rose Garden will meet at the Rose Garden Shop at noon.
Gretchen Humphrey of the Portland Rose Society will talk briefly about her climate experiences as a rose grower, and then lead a tour of the Rose Garden. We’re thrilled to have such a knowledgeable guide.
Gretchen Humphrey is a Horticulture Judge, Consulting Rosarian and Master Rosarian with the American Rose Society.
She was President of Portland Rose Society in 2012, and Pacific NW Director of the American Rose Society (ARS) from 2012-2017.
Gretchen has been thrilled to win Queen of Show in our spring show ( the largest show in the country) seven times. She won Queen in our Fall Show, Mini Show as well as in several other shows in the northwest.
She has been volunteering in the International Rose Test Garden for about 15 years, deadheading spent roses and leading tours.
Logistics: there is paid parking at both the Rose Garden and the Elephant House. The Elephant House has a water fountain and restrooms. The road from the Rose Garden to Rose Garden Playground and then the Elephant House is one way, so if you want to drop off food and then drive back to the Rose Garden for the tour, drop off promptly at 11:45 to get back to the Rose Garden Shop for the noon tour start.
Directions via foot, bike, mass transit, free park shuttle or car
Please let us know you plan to join the Rose Garden Tour by adding your name on this page, or email Katherine at katherinebfredricks@fastmail.com with any questions.
Re-join us at the Elephant House after the tour to eat, socialize, enjoy, and find out more about our chapter.
