It is with great sadness that Climate Reality Portland reports that local Climate Reality leader and climate champion, the former Oregon Secretary of State, Bill Bradbury, passed away this past week.

It was just last year that Climate Reality Portland was privileged to have him talk to us as part of a virtual workshop on how to advocate for climate legislation in Salem. Up until his death, he was working closely with many Climate Reality members on projects in Oregon such as promoting off-shore wind in the Coos Bay area and supporting significant climate legislation in Oregon.
His life and effort were a model for how one person can have an outsized impact on our state – and our planet.

Not only has Bill Bradbury been involved with the local chapter of Climate Reality since its founding, but he has also been with the international Climate Reality organization since its founding, and has been honored personally by Al Gore several times, including with his reception of the prestigious Green Ring award at the Climate Reality training in 2017.

We honor and appreciate that he dedicated his retirement to fighting the climate crisis despite his daily struggle with MS, and for being a mentor to other Climate Reality Leaders.

We also honor and appreciate him for working with his wife, Katy, in her years-long campaign to shut down the LNG terminal proposed in Coos Bay.

See Bill Bradbury speak about climate change with compassion, dedication, and optimism in this Climate Reality Leader spotlight:
